AdventHealth Emergency Department on Cypress Gardens Boulevard Approved for Future Development

The AdventHealth Emergency Department in Winter Haven is expected to undergo development with a new hospital building and medical offices now that a Planned Unit Development Ordinance (PUDO) has been approved.
At their regular meeting on Mon. Oct 28, Winter Haven city commissioners approved the second reading of an ordinance that would permit the future development of the AdventHealthEmergency Department.
Located near the River Lake Shopping Center on 6945 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, the AdventHealth Emergency Department is situated on more than 41 acres of property. The building is expected to undergo development, which would include the following:
• Increase the number of monument signs
• Increase the total building signage square feet for the hospital and emergency department;
• Increase the maximum building signage for each free-standing building; and
• Allow for a spire sign for the emergency department.
The ordinance, which was approved through a unanimous vote from the Winter Haven City Commission, would facilitate these developments by amending the Planned Unit Ordinance (PUO), which, as Senior Planner Heather Reuter wrote in the agenda item, would “address conditions related to signage for the property.”
“Due to the proposed size of the hospital and medical campus on a parcel with 2,100± feet of frontage, the increase in permitted building signage will improve wayfinding at the hospital and throughout the medical campus,” she wrote.
One commissioner raised a concern about the lighting from the new signs. City Manager T. Michael Stavres explained that precautions would be taken to mitigate any potential light pollution. For example, the proposed spire would include opaque screening.
As Reuter states: “included conditions related to the proposed spire sign to mitigate any impact from light to residential properties to the north.”
Tim Campbell, representing AdventHealth Polk North, insisted that the company chose that location due to Winter Haven’s growing population and that they were “excited about patients they have been able to serve.”
