Nelson Nizer, Jr.
August 28th, 1952 – September 30th, 2024
Nelson R. Nizer Jr., 72 of Winter Haven, Florida went to his eternal rest on September 30, 2024. Nelson was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 28, 1952. His family moved to Florida when he was 15 years old where he excelled in playing basketball for Plantation High School. After graduating high school, he began his long career in the food industry in Fort Myers, Florida. Eventually he made his way to Winter Haven where he met his wife Cathy, and they shared three children. During those 38 years of marriage, Nelson began a long career of coaching youth sports. He started at Little Miss Winter Haven Softball, 8 years at Sertoma Football, and 15 years at Sertoma Baseball. He was very passionate about coaching, building, and maintaining relationships with everyone he was involved with; many of whom still call him “Coach”. In his last 20 years Nelson became part of the dynamic duo with his best friend John Seibel as they hunted for antiques and collectibles. He joined Southern Comfort Antiques to display and share his knowledge with others, especially of coins and currency that he had been collecting since he was 10 years old.
Nelson was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Nelson R. Nizer and Patricia Nizer; his mother, Penny Conley. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Nizer; daughter, Sherry Nizer; sons, Kyle Nizer (Shannon Nizer) and Kevin Nizer; four grandchildren, Isis, Jasmine, Cheyenne, and Cyrus; his brother, Robert Nizer (Jill); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family received friends Friday, October 4, 2024 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Winter Haven with funeral services immediately following. Burial took place afterwards at Rolling Hills Cemetery, Winter Haven.
